OUR OBJECTIVES: Is to perform our duties to the best of our ability and with integrity.
What started as an interest in History and ancestry in trying to create a family tree, evolved into discovering that cemeteries can be difficult to find your past relatives due to not being able to identify the writing on the older sandstone type headstones. During our explorations of some of the older burying grounds, we became familiar with the types of materials used, and the progression that has been made. Early graveyards had started with wooden markers to memorialize their loved ones and then moved onto what was available locally, such as sandstone and slate. Then, as transport systems became more efficient, many different materials became available, including different metals, and marbles, as well as granite, which has now become the standard material used to make headstones and monuments.
We also found that many of these memorials to past lives were in a state of disrepair, damaged by the passing of time, acid rain, lichen, and other biological growth. Some have been damaged by vandals or fallen debris. Many have been repaired improperly by well-meaning, but untrained people, which can lead to more rapid deterioration or further damage to a loved one's gravestone. We wanted to do something to help preserve this part of our history.
We then undertook COSHH task-specific training on chemicals which people use to clean their loved one's graves. It was astonishing to find that the control of household substances are hazardous to certain types of granite and marble stone. They include everyday materials such as paraffin, correcting fluid, acids, cleaning chemicals, dust sprays, carcinogens, biological agents and many more. During this course, we learned about the correct methods and materials needed to reset, repair, and restore all the styles and types of granite and marble stone.
The newer and recently placed gravestone needs the care to keep them looking the way that they are intended to. Whether it is a tall obelisk, a statue, a large headstone, or a plaque marker, we can keep it looking as good as possible. By giving peace of mind to those left behind, and preserving the memory of a loved one, will be the most gratifying service we will provide. We started undertaking grave cleaning & maintenance back in 2017 and the business has been growing ever since.
